Meet Will
Hello!! My name is Will Schlechter. I would like to introduce myself as I am running for Lorain County Commissioner.
I am a lifelong resident of Henrietta Twp. My family has been a part of our community since 1852 and my children are the 7th generation to live on our farm. I am a 1995 graduate of Firelands High School and attended The Ohio State University Agricultural Technical Institute. I have been married to my lovely wife Susan for 23 years and we have four children.
My brother Carl and I operate a small farm and farm market, Schlechter Brothers Country Harvest, in rural Lorain County.
We also own a small excavation business.
I have been involved in leadership roles beginning as a youth with organizations like 4-H, FFA and the Lorain County Jr. Fair Board. These experiences have geared my adult life toward serving others. I have been active with Lorain County Farm Bureau Board of Trustees, Lorain County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors, Henrietta United Methodist Church Council, Firelands Hall of Fame Committee, and most recently Firelands Local School Board member. I am also appointed to serve on the Zoning Board of Appeals in Henrietta Township and the Lorain County Rural Waste Water Board by the Henrietta Township Trustees.
I have also served for 20+ years as a 4-H volunteer, serve on the Lorain County Community Foundation Scholarship selection committee and serve as
a volunteer with Scouts BSA. As well as being involved in several organizations, my family and I are committed to supporting the Lorain County Fair,
Jr. Fair, and other local school and youth organizations.
If elected to serve as Lorain County Commissioner it would be my objective to restore trust, transparency, and to give the residents a voice at the county level. I also feel that it is important to respect people even if they have different views. The county government should be responsible with tax payer money. I feel that county government should work with city, village, and township leaders to help meet the needs of every community within the county. It is my goal to connect with the leaders in each community during my campaign and learn their strengths, weaknesses, and any goals they may have.
ONE COUNTY. EVERY COMMUNITY.
Responsibility
As a farm operator and small business owner, I believe that growth is necessary for success, but it also must be responsible and sustainable. Our county is diverse with its farmland, small towns, and cities. I believe we can generate economic growth and still maintain the character of our beautiful county.
Transparency and Trust
A county government should have the best interest of the people in mind when making decisions. Budgets should be openly discussed while considering both the entity and the cost to the tax payers.
Representation
I believe that every community in Lorain County should be considered when making decisions that will lead to generational change. All residents' voices are important and county leaders should value them while doing their best to represent the people of Lorain County.
Core Values
One County. Every Community.
